So not much of note happened today.
I’m not even sure I can account for all the time that passed today, so I’m not really sure what to write this blog post about.
So I figure I’ll just talk about the anime I’ve been watching with my Wife.
I purchased My Hero Academia season 1 in the big fancy Blu-Ray box set and we watched it straight away.
It. Was. Amazing!
I think Season 2 was already coming out in English by the time we finished, but I wanted to wait until I could get it on Blu-Ray the same way.
That time passed, and I can almost get Season 3 on Blu-Ray, it’s just that instead of getting the whole season in one set, they did the annoyingly greedy thing and split it up into 2 fancy box sets, and they just never seemed to get down to a decent enough price.
So in that time FunimationNow has all of seasons 2 and 3 on their service.
So we put MHA on our Anime list of shows to choose from, and let Fate™ decide what to watch.
Fate™ is our way of deciding things.
What’s Fate™?
It’s called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch!
We have a list of 8 options in positions 1 to 8.
We then make an 8 players Smash match, where every player is an AI at Level 9 (which is the highest difficulty in Smash Bros.), they’re all set to Random characters, and they’re all on 300% damage.
We then start the match, and whoever is victorious moves on to the second round.
We then play again until we get a second option.
Then we have those two characters fight it out in a best of 3 match, and whoever wins that is the option we go with!
It generally doesn’t take too long and can be really amusing and frustrating at the same time.
Sure, we could just roll a d8, or get our Google Home to roll a d8, but this is more fun!
My Hero Academia was victorious in our last round of Smash!
So because it had been years since we watched the first season, we decided to rewatch it so it wasn’t annoying trying to remember everyone.
For those of you who don’t know what My Hero Academia is I’ll explain it.
In short: it’s “Japan’s take on super heroes.”
In long: It’s a Shonen Jump manga series that’s been turned into an Anime. The story revolves around the character Izuku “Deku” Midoriya who is one of the rare people in the world who does not have a “quirk,” a.k.a. a super power. So he’s basically a regular person in a world where 80% of people have powers. It’s basically reverse X-Men!
Deku loves heroes, especially the Superman of the setting All Might, and eventually gets the opportunity to inherit All Might’s quirk “One For All.”
Deku then manages to get into the most prestigious high school for Heroes in Japan: “U.A. High School”
Deku gets accepted into U.A. and must learn how to control his new quirk, which breaks whatever part of his body he uses with it.
At school he’s put into a class with other heroes, and they all form the main roster of characters you get to know, along with the other “Professional” heroes who are their teachers.
So because of the sheer number of characters, it’s important to remember who they are, because they all play some kind of roll.
It’s one of the things about Shonen Anime, it usually has a huge cast of characters, and most of the time it’s the side characters that actually become the most loved characters.
So starting from the beginning, with all of their introductions, makes it so much easier to watch the rest.
Rewatching MHA has been great, and the show is very emotional at times.
It’s quite honestly one of the best shonen anime there’s been, and I’ve watched a bunch of them!
The biggest difference it has is the pace it comes out, which is unlike most other of its kind.
Instead of going none stop until they run out of material and have to do filler arc after filler arc (looking at you Naruto and Bleach!)
It instead does smaller, regular sized, seasons that keep the production higher quality.
So I’m absolutely loving the watching it again and I can’t wait to get on to the new seasons.
I’ve been a little bit spoiled with what happens in those seasons, but I only really know broad strokes, so I’m super excited!
And remember… Go Beyond! PLUS ULTRA!
